Course Description;
NYSWDA has partnered with Infraspection Institute, the world's oldest independent training & certification firm for thermographers and a nationally known leader in infrared imaging technology. This 2-day training involves both classroom and hands-on field sessions.The attendees, upon completion of the training, will have an understanding of the basic heat theory necessary for all thermal work and will know how to best utilize the imaging equipment they have and be better able to employ the equipment to perform blower door assisted air sealing practices, residential energy audit inspections and post inspections
Agenda;
Day One
- Introductions and Overview
- Compare the 3 forms of heat transfer
- Discuss IR theory
- Distinguish the relationship between reflectance, emittance & transmittance
- Describe how energy moves easily or resetrictively through a residential structure
- List proper components necessary for a site review
- Distinguish internal and eternal thermal signatures
- Explain common problems related to accurate thermal imaging
- Interpret collected thermal information
- Describe the correct procedure for producing a thermal image

- "Learning to Think Thermally - an introduction to Infrared Thermography
- History of Infrared Thermography/Overview of IR equipment
- How to collect good data/taking great images
- Hands-on camera work & exercises in classroom

Day Two
- Review of Day One material
- Compare historical images from modern ones
- Prepare (their) imager to produce an image
- Show proper imager protection procedures
- Select an appropriate image
- Apply correct distance to spot size
- Overview of Llow slope roof moisture inspections

- Field work IR applications for building diagnostics
- Conducting an insulation inspection

Attendees must bring their IR camera with charged batteries. Depending on conditions, a portion of the training may be held outside. so bring appropriate clothing for the weather conditions.
