Introduction to Radon and Integrated Precautionary Measures
Location: Opportunities for Otsego, Inc. - 182 Roundhouse Road, Oneonta, NY 13820
This training is for:
WAP Directors, Auditors and Crew Leaders
Course Description:
Radon is a naturally occurring, radioactive element - meaning it gives off radiation - that can move through buildings as a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas. It can be found in buildings all over New York State, including single and multi-family homes. Long-term exposure to radon can be dangerous and is thought to be the second largest contributor to lung cancer after smoking.
Federal DOE is now requiring WAP to include precautionary measures as part of health and safety workscopes to help minimize exposure. This four (4) hour course will help raise awareness among WAP field staff on the science and health risks associated with long-term exposure to elevated radon gas levels. As part of this course, DOE/NYSHCR, EPA and OSHA radon requirements will be discussed, and precautionary work practices that agency staff should follow to be in compliance, will be addressed.
